Boston

I am at a loss for intelligent words today. I think the whole country is at a loss for words, except for some of my FB friends who have eloquently expressed what I think most of us are feeling. I wish I had the clarity that they do to put into words the grief and sadness we all feel, to think that an event so challenging, inspiring and respected, could be besmirched in such a horrific and tragic way is beyond me.

Boston has always held a special place in my heart. Both of my parents grew up in/around Boston, and they wish they had never left. It has always been one of my favorite cities, and I get excited every time I fly in and out. My uncle ran the Boston Marathon several years ago, and my 14-year old cousin was at the race, and yes, near the finish line about an hour before the explosions. My mom was so panicked at hearing the news that she left work early to be home with my Dad, talking to her family to make sure that everyone was ok. Boyleston Street and Newbury Street have always been some of my favorite streets in Boston, full of shopping and restaurants and great people watching. It breaks my heart that this iconic city, sport and community will be forever scarred by this event.
As with any tragedy, there are always stories that warm your heart, and remind you that good people do exist, and those stories serve as a point of light in a dark and heart-aching time. I love reading all these stories, but as an athlete and a fierce competitor, it overwhelms me when sportsmanship is shown to cities in need, like the New York Yankees have done for the Boston Red Sox. Not even the fiercest rivalry in US sports can stand up to a tragedy like this, and no one would have it any other way.

I found this image from google, and again it warms my heart that this kind of compassion still exists, even in the immediate wake of such horror and sadness.
I was so ready last week to finally make a consistent effort at blogging (per usual), I had posts scheduled for almost every day, yet I would find myself falling asleep watching FRIENDS with no mental energy or motivation to put my thoughts to paper and hit publish. I had many April Goals to share, and now I don't even know where I wrote them down...but somehow I have trouble feeling any guilt about that anymore after what happened yesterday.

One thing I want to shed some light on everyone has probably seen commercials for: Tom's Shoes One Day Without Shoes. Even if you can't go shoeless, you can still be a part of this movement.
One Day Without Shoes is our day to bring global awareness
to children's health and education by going without shoes.
